Ready to Lay Tongue and Groove

The bird block is finished and last night we removed the ridgepole lifting poles. Today I (Tammy) have been putting a clear sealer on one side of the tongue and groove. This evening we will start nailing the tongue and groove to the rafters. A small crew of guys from our church are planning to come help on Saturday. We don't have an easy way to lift the t&g up to the top so it should be interesting to see what we come up with. I sure hope the t&g goes together quickly. Some pieces are a little warped.

  1. Hi,
    Great work!
Been wanting to do this with my daughter for many yrs and noticed you attended Skips designed log building class. Acquired some land and ready to get started. Is the class legitimate and worth the money? What is not taught in class that I may need to learn to build a log home? Thanks

  2. The class is for real. I have never built anything before in my life other than a few decks and we learned everything we need to know to build a log home from the class. Electrical and plumbing will be my biggest challenge but we will figure it out.

  3. I found your blog the other day, after lurking on the LHBA forums, and read through every post/picture. It was great to see your progress and watch your dreams come true! While I only have 2 little one's at this point (22 months and 4 months), we intend to have more and homeschool them as well. You guys are an inspiration to me and my family on many different levels. The desire of my heart is to move into the same area as you (East TN, West NC) and build. I feel that you are giving your kids a wonderful childhood that they won't forget, I want the same for mine. Your family will truly be blessed by your decision, I have no doubt. Every person I've talked to that has grown up with a more simple lifestyle has wonderful elaborate stories about their childhood, whereas those suburban childhoods are very bland and uneventful. I'm sure your confident in your decision but let me just say that you are doing a wonderful thing for your children and family. God bless you.

God has lead me to the same realization about our lifestyle and I'm in the planning stage to make it happen. If you could get around to it, do you have a cost rundown for your project? The logs/logger price is what I was initially unsure of, then I realized that the other costs in your area may be much different than mine (FL). I'm familiar with Construction but not the regional prices.

I'm sure you are busy but if you could drop me an email or copy and paste a file that you possibly have on your computer that outlines your expenses I would be beyond grateful. tharveyjr@gmail.com.

Thank you and good luck completing the cabin. I wish you all the best. -TJ
